You are listening to episode 37, Titled- Prayer Zones
Hey you guys! This is Kelsie Millet and I am your host here on the Let Him In Podcast, where
my intent is to have these episodes full of thoughts, impressions and ways for you to easily let God into your every day.
Good morning friends. In yesterday’s episode I briefly mentioned that I had a prayer practice that I have started implementing that I was excited to talk to you more about in today’s episode.
I don’t know about you but I often feel like there is so much I want to pray about. I want to pray about each of my kids, their health and safety, well being, I want to pray about my husband, pray for extended family, direction for future goals, guidance on growth for my business. The list could keep going and going. I feel like in the past I would basically jam pack my prayers with all of the things. Because I wanted to pray for so many things, and because I was jam packing it all in, it ended up making so much of it surface level.
What I mean by that is I was barely skimming the surface of talking about each subject because if I went into depth on each subject I would be saying an hour long or more prayer every night, and realistically as amazing as that would be, it’s just not going to happen right now in my life.
So here comes this new practice that I am starting. Starting being the key word, I have only been working on implementing this for a few weeks. I originally heard this idea from Emily Belle Freeman, and it just makes so much sense to me and is really helping me feel like I can go deeper into a specific area of my life in conversation and prayer with Heavenly Father.
Let me preface this with I still am obviously loving and using the crap out of my Hear Him journal. This in no way replaces that practice for me. The journal just provides a way of recording conversations with God and creating this personal scripture that just no other practice would be able to. And writing those conversations down is what is so beautiful about the Hear Him Journal, because it really provides a way that you can always go back and re-read and remember answers and receive comfort in a beautiful way.
I felt like I just needed to say that, because I LOVE the journal and still continue to use it. And I don’t want you to think I am replacing it.
So this new practice I call prayer zones. And what I have done is create different spots in my home that will be “assigned” to each one of my kids. My room has become the spot that I pray for Evelyn my baby. To me this just made sense because I spend a lot of time nursing her in my room. So now I spend at least one of her nursing sessions specifically praying about and for her.
Another zone I am creating is my laundry room, when I am changing the wash or folding. I have also tried making my car a zone-but that one wasn’t as successful for me because I typically am surrounded by kids. And there was just too much distraction. But hopefully you get the idea. It’s just finding either a chore you are doing, or a certain space of your home that you can designate to a certain kid, or spouse, or your job, whatever you need it to be.
I haven’t done this yet, but I was thinking about actually writing each of my kids names on just like a sticky note and putting it in each spot as well to help me a visual reminder for me when I am in each of these zones.
I haven’t been amazing at doing this every single day for each of my kids, but usually I get through a couple of them. When Emily Belle Freeman was sharing about her experience with creating these zones for her kids. She shared that by doing this she felt like Heavenly Father knew when he should talk to her about each kid. He knew that she always prayed about one of her kids while doing the dishes, so she often would get personal revelation for that specific child when she was doing dishes.
I loved that story and I truly believe that God is always finding ways to be able to speak with us. I will say it over and over again. And when we are creating practices like this, it puts our mind in the right space for Him to be able to speak and for us to hear Him.
Today’s thought comes from Russel M. Nelson and his talk called Sweet Power of Prayer
“Through prayer, we can show our love for God. And He has made it so easy. We may pray to Him any time. No special equipment is needed. We don’t even need to charge batteries or pay a monthly service fee.
Some people pray only when confronted with personal problems. Others don’t pray at all. A scripture makes this observation: “Ye do not remember the Lord your God in the things with which he hath blessed you, but ye do always remember your riches, not to thank the Lord … for them.”2
Prophets have long told us to pray humbly and frequently.
Prayers can be offered even in silence. One can think a prayer, especially when words would interfere.15 We often kneel to pray; we may stand or be seated.16 Physical position is less important than is spiritual submission to God.
we are a praying people.”
Now would be the perfect time to pull out your Hear Him Journal and continue in more stillness, an open mind and a desire to connect with God.
Love you guys!
